In a move, which indicates the increasingly ubiquitous role of energy management within companies, training provider the British Safety Council has created a new green management qualification, the Associate Certificate in Environmental Management, reveals voltage optimisation company EcoAdapt (http://www.ecoadapt.co.uk).
The Associate Certificate in Environmental Management course from the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) has recently been updated to further focus on sustainable development. The aim is to assist mid- and senior-level managers to reduce the environmental impact of their business through carbon reduction and the installation of energy saving technology, among other methods. Howard Dawes, portfolio manager for training at the British Safety Council, explained the need to update the course to BusinessGreen.com: "The old certificate was quite compliance orientated. The new one covers the foundations such as environmental law and risk, but has much more emphasis on sustainable development, including helping businesses to engage with their supply chain and drive behavioural change internally." John Phillips, director of qualifications and standards, also speaking to BusinessGreen.com, said, “Businesses are facing ever-greater legal, financial and reputational pressure from customers, suppliers and regulators to reduce the environmental and social impacts of their day-to-day activities, products and services."
The course, which the British Safety Council will launch in October in London, Manchester and Birmingham, will cover such areas as how to influence business behaviour in order to reduce carbon emissions, and the management of business environmental performance overall.
