A new study has found that nearly half of businesses will reorganise their HR functions over the coming year, while a third of firms plan to increase their spend on HR technology, reports the change management specialist Employee Management Ltd (http://www.employeemanagement.co.uk). The news indicates many firms' eagerness to adapt and update the manner in which services are delivered, in spite of the budget pressures of recent years.
The survey, which polled more than 600 companies across the world, found that 44 per cent of firms planned to alter the structure of their HR departments so that they could deliver HR services more effectively, compared to 26 per cent of companies last year. Of the firms that intended to introduce changes, four in ten indicated that they would switch to a shared services environment, while 31 per cent stated that they would increase their current number of shared services and a quarter signalled that they would outsource HR services.
The figures also revealed that three in every four firms operating in a single territory favoured having one central HR function, whereas only a third of global companies felt the same. 31 per cent of firms also disclosed an intention to increase their amount of HR technology expenditure over the coming 12 months, as they sought to become more efficient and increase growth in the aftermath of the recession. This compared to one in six companies planning to reduce their spending from last year, with half of them aiming to match it.
The three major areas of investment focused on the rolling out of additional functionality from existing providers, upgrading HR management systems and the expansion of current self-service functions. Clients of HR specialists such as Employee Management Ltd largely cited increased quality, greater process integration and lower end costs as their motivations for the changes.
