World-renowned celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal may have made his name with futuristic cooking methods (his so-called ‘molecular gastronomy’), but if his latest television show is anything to go by, he likes nothing more than the old school magic of tuck shop sweets, reveals Shorters Club (http://www.shortersclub.co.uk/).
At Shorters Club, we’ve long known the appeal of traditional sweets, which is why we’ve dedicated an entire department of our online wholesale store to retro, old-fashioned sweets which you used to find in your school tuck shop back in the day. We knew we weren’t alone in our love of these type of sweets, too, because our customers go mad for our confectionery items, some of them stocking up on the treats each time they put in their regular grocery order.
But we didn’t imagine that the three-Michelin-starred chef Heston Blumenthal would be a fan of the humble Humbug or retro Refreshers. It seems that’s the case, however, as the mad scientist of a chef was recently spotted sharing his love of nostalgic confectionery as part of his new television show for Channel 4.
Blumenthal, who was hand-picked to create the hampers for the Jubilee garden party at Buckingham Palace, told a local newspaper when filming scenes for the show in Guildford, Surrey, “We are filming for a new series and this programme is all about sweet shops and the magic of old-fashioned sweets. So our first port of call was in Guildford with a mobile sweet shop, where we thought they would enjoy their old-fashioned, classic sweets. And I can tell you, judging by what we've seen, people in Guildford love their sweets."
If you also like your share of classic sweets then check out our massive range of tuck shop treats at the online wholesale store which is open to the public, Shorters Club. Browsing the virtual confectionery aisles is like taking a trip down memory lane...see which ones you remember from your school days and then treat yourself so you’ve got something to nibble on while watching Heston’s new show!
